Octavio is an Electrical Mechanical Engineer, graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) and holds a law degree from the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM).
He started in the patent practice in 2005, and since then has served as a consultant in the analysis, procurement and use of patents, specifically in the fields of mechanical, electrical, industrial designs and computer-implemented inventions; Octavio has been responsible for the area of operations management and maintenance matters of the firm.
He currently leads the Patents and Technology team, responsible for the filing, prosecution and maintenance of patents, utility models and industrial designs; technological intelligence studies, valuation of intellectual assets, technology assessment and technical aspects of patent litigation; he also directs the Technology Transfer Office. Additionally, he has under his responsibility the operation of the branch office in Guadalajara and the area of specialized Translation.
He was invited by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) to participate in the JPO/IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Patents (IPPP) postgraduate course at the Japan Institute for Promoting Invention and Innovation (JIPII), Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) and Asia-Pacific Industrial Property Center (APIC).
Octavio is the author of several articles for national and international publications, including Mexico's contribution to the book Design Rights - Functionality and Scope of Protection jointly published by AIPPI and Wolters Kluwer. He has been a speaker on the topic Industrial Design protection in Mexico during the LES Pan-American YMC in 2016 (Ottawa CA), the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute in 2017 (Ft Lauderdale FL) and AIPPI World Congress (Cancun) in 2019, among others.
